31 Days of Giving, Day Nine: Meridian Senior Center

Last Friday, I had the pleasure of volunteering at the Meridian Senior Center. During my time volunteering, I held a holiday craft workshop alongside my co-worker Jessica Sanchez. In the spirit of the holidays, we decided to bring craft materials so that people could make some holiday ornaments.

Only about six people signed up for the workshop, but that allowed Jessica and I to get to know those that did attend and have some great conversations. A couple of the seniors that came to the workshop used to be teachers, so we had a great time exchanging stories , laughing, and hearing about their experiences.

The Meridian Senior Center is a wonderful facility, and we asked the workshop attendees about the other types of activities that they attend there. We learned that there are weekly zumba classes, jazzercize, bridge, euchre, and even Tai Chi. There seemed to be a real sense of community and friendship between those that came to the Senior Center regularly, which was a great thing to see.

Jessica and I had a wonderful time volunteering, and hope to head back to the Meridian Senior Center sometime soon to do another crafting workshop.
