Mother’s Day: Sunday, May 12, 2019!

Mother’s Day is always on the second Sunday in May. This year it is Sunday, May 12th. I believe Mother’s Day is a favorite holiday to celebrate for many people around the world. People love to celebrate themselves as a mother and all the mothers in their lives. Many people also have a grandmother or even a great grandmother to celebrate. Every single one of these mother figures in our lives are very important to us!

As we get older Mother’s Day becomes even more important. Mother’s Day is a day to take time to thank the woman who raised us and the women who made us who we are. Mother’s Day is all about forming closer ties and stronger bonds with our family members, especially older adults. Often older adults love any sort of extra appreciation. Sometimes older adults become lonely or isolated during holidays. Mother’s Day gives families the opportunity to send some extra love to all the mothers in their lives.

Anna Jarvis started Mother’s Day in 1908 and made it an official holiday in 1914. After her mother passed away, Anna Jarvis wanted people to give thanks to their mothers for all the sacrifices they make for their children. She decided a day specifically to celebrate mothers would honor these sacrifices.

Mother’s Day is a special and important day, I mean, how can we say thank you enough to the woman who gave us the gift of life? Great grandmothers, grandmothers, and mothers alike appreciate a customizable or sentimental gift. Everyone is focused on celebrating mom in the right way, but even a small gesture like stopping in for a cup of coffee or tea would make her day. If you are looking for a special gift for your mom, check out Good Housekeeping for some ideas.
