2019 Call to Justice Honoree: Benita Armstrong

Benita-Armstrong-Eventbrite-ReadyOn August 14, 2019, Elder Law of Michigan will honor Adult Protective Services supervisor for Calhoun and St. Joseph counties, Benita Armstrong, with the 2019 Joe D. Sutton Call to Justice Awards for her elder abuse prevention work.

The Joe D. Sutton Call to Justice Awards honor those that share the mission of Elder Law of Michigan, Inc. to advocate for, educate, and assist those in need, with a continued focus on older adults and persons with disabilities.

Ron Tatro, Vice President of Elder Law of Michigan, said, “She is renowned for her compassion for seniors and her efforts to protect some of the most valuable members of our society.”

Benita graduated from Siena Heights University in Adrian, Michigan with a bachelor’s and master’s degree. She started her career in public service as an employment counselor and transitioned into working in higher education at Albion College, Siena Heights University, and Baker College. Benita returned to public service as a foster care worker for the state of Michigan then moved into Adult Services and loved it! Currently, Benita is the supervisor for Calhoun, Barry, and St. Joseph counties, under region three Business Service Center director, Kathy Miller. Benita is an active member of the Adult Protective Services Design Team, a member of the Calhoun County Elder Abuse Team, and an active participant with the Calhoun County Homeless Fair/Step Down. Benita is a presenter and speaker for multiple agencies on Adult Services truths and myths and an advocate for all things older adult.

Benita is a busy mother of three beautiful children, Danita (recent graduate of Central Michigan University), Morgan (current student at Albion College) and Cameron (entering Albion College as a freshman Fall 2019). Benita is a loving daughter to Barbara and Howard, a devoted wife to Damon, a go-to sister, cousin, niece, and all-around family advocate. She is a lover of all things QVC (shopping) and HGTV (decorating).
