by Char Brooks, Project Healthy Living Coach and Attorney
Chris has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and International Relations from the University of Indianapolis, prior to which, he attended the University of California – Riverside. He graduated from Michigan State University College of Law in 2013 and became a licensed attorney shortly thereafter. He started working with ELM as a volunteer, helping seniors as part of the Legal Hotline. Since then, he has become our Communications Coordinator and Project Administrator.
When asked what he likes most about working at Elder Law of Michigan, he said: “I like the people. We’re a big family of people who are all willing to help each other out. I love being able to help seniors in multiple ways. Hearing from seniors that we’ve helped them either directly or through surveys or social media makes my day!”
Chris works as part of CERA, the Center for Elder Rights Advocacy, a project of Elder Law of Michigan, Inc., which provides technical assistance to managers of non profit legal hotlines, legal programs planning to develop a legal hotline, and others interested in integrating a legal hotline into their legal services delivery system.
Chris has also served as part of the team that has developed a website called Michigan Support For Older Adults Portal (password restricted). This site makes it possible to help our community partners serve their clients by screening clients for food assistance and other benefits as well as helping them apply while receiving online live support from our staff.
Chris finds many ways to help our seniors. In the past month, Chris gave a presentation at the Eaton Rapids Senior Center on Legal Planning and Alzheimers. He also attended the State Bar of Michigan’s Elder Law and Disability Rights conference to stay up to date on legal issues facing seniors. While doing all of this, Chris also helps things run smoothly at ELM by leading our technology team.
In his spare time, Chris enjoys hockey, running, video games, and all things Sparty (Go Green!). He is a tremendous asset to our ELM team and we are grateful for all his hard work.
Congratulations Chris!!
