National Random Acts of Kindness Week

This post is in honor of National Random Acts of Kindness Week which runs February 15th through 21st.

The dictionary defines the adjective “random” as, “proceeding, made, or occurring without definite aim, reason, or pattern.” Surprise a senior friend, neighbor or someone you meet this week with a random act of kindness. Below, I’ve listed several ideas. If none of these appeal to you, you can check out 43 more great ideas.

• Give a senior the gift of music:
  • Schools/churches visit during the holidays, but not the rest of the year;
  • Sing, play an instrument, or arrange for others to do so…regularly;
  • Learn some ‘oldies.”
• Volunteer to help with craft time, bingo, serving meals, etc.;
• Read to someone;
• Arrange to pick someone/folks up on your way to church or synagogue;
• Teach a senior how to use a computer or “surf” the web;
• Move your senior neighbor’s trash to the curb or their newspaper to the porch;
• Offer to walk a senior’s dog or help clean their cat’s litter box;
• Offer to help a senior with his/her shopping.

Who knows, maybe it will be something you enjoy so much that you will keep doing it, even after this “special” week has come to an end!
