In celebration of the National Farmers Market Week, I searched for resources to better educate myself on farmers market. I was happy to learn that farmers market is an “assembly of farmers or their representatives selling the food that they produced directly to consumers.” I was not aware that the term “local” is defined by each farmers market and it is based on the agriculture of its region. I was pleased to learn that farmers markets implement guidelines and operating rules to make sure that the goods sold at the farmers market are products that are grown or produced at farms. I was also thrilled to learn that the number of farmers markets in the United States has grown and it is estimated to be more than 8,600 farmers markets currently registered in the USDA.
