Resources: New DOJ Interactive Map and Limited English Proficiency Visualization

By Darling Garcia, J.D., L.L.M., Director of Community Services

The Department of Justice Civil Rights Division has a new Language Map App that can help you determine the number of Limited English Proficient individuals in your state. The map can provide detail data from county, municipality, and which languages individuals speak. The interactive Language App Map provides a breakdown by state and it is fairly user friendly.

In addition, the National Council on Aging has a LEP Visualization toolkit that can help organizations make their outreach materials more effective by identifying and addressing language barriers.

These two resources have improved my ability to be a better advocate, and I hope you find them useful as well.
