Elder Abuse: The mistreatment or harm of an older adult. It takes many forms and occurs in both community and institutional settings. Elder abuse occurs in every ethnicity/race, gender, religion, and socioeconomic status. 100,000 older adults in Michigan alone are abused every year. Elder Abuse is widely under-detected/reported, it is an injustice that we all need to address and prevent. Elder Abuse occurs when strong social supports are not present to keep us connected.
We must all work together to create a stronger society that values and supports positive connections and services for our aging communities. Learn more: World Elder Abuse Awareness Day | USC CEM #WEAAD
