My name is Katharine Burns and I am an AmeriCorps State member serving at Elder Law in the 2013-2014 program year as the Foreclosure Prevention Manager. In addition, I am also part of the Michigan Foreclosure Prevention Corps (MFPC), which is comprised of 20 AmeriCorps members serving in 16 different sites around the state. Our mission is to prevent foreclosure through activities such as intake and follow-up with clients, outreach and education classes, and volunteer recruitment. Last year alone, members of the MFPC served 10,627 homeowners statewide through intake and triage, along with an additional 13,153 homeowners reached through outreach, mailings and presentations.
In my capacity as Foreclosure Prevention Manager, I will serve clients by attending and planning outreach events, coordinating mailings to homeowners, and educating clients on foreclosure prevention. As an attorney, I will also be able to offer them legal information on foreclosure and other housing-related issues. Overall I look forward to building relationships within Elder Law and other agencies, with the larger goal of keeping homeowners out of foreclosure whenever possible.
