ELM co-sponsors Senior Independence Benefits Fair in Detroit

Mrs. Sylvia Scales shared her emotional story before those in attendance at the Senior Independence Benefits Fair in Detroit. Through the work of HRCMI, a program of ELM, Mrs. Scales was approved for $16,000 from Step Forward Michigan to pay for delinquent property taxes.

On September 15, 2015, hundreds of seniors attended the Senior Independence Benefits Fair held at the Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit, MI (pictured above).  The event was co-sponsored by Elder Law of Michigan, Inc. (ELM), Detroit Area Agency on Agingthe National Council on Agingthe Southeast Michigan Senior Regional Collaborative, and the Center for Financial Health. Speakers presented on a wide range of topics including: reverse mortgages, public benefits, and the importance of senior independence. Round table sessions were held on reverse mortgages, retirement planning, caregiver education, fall prevention, and financial security.  Organizations from across Michigan and the nation were on hand to answer questions and share valuable resources.
