31 Days of Giving, Day Six: Ingham County TRIAD & Capital Area Community Services

Yesterday I had the opportunity to volunteer at two organizations who help meet the needs of seniors. In the morning I helped assemble 300 baskets for Ingham County TRIAD’s ‘No senior without Christmas’. Ingham County TRIAD is a partnership among law enforcement agencies, fire personnel, senior citizens, and community members which promotes elder quality of life through advocacy assistance, education and training. 31 Days of Giving, Day Five: City Rescue Mission

Yesterday I volunteered at the City Rescue Mission, dating and sorting canned goods. The City Rescue Mission serves about 150 meals to people each evening. Some of those individuals are at the women and children’s location, so those meals are prepared with the others at the East Michigan location and then transported in “hot boxes” to their center. They also serve breakfast and lunch, which … Continue reading 31 Days of Giving, Day Five: City Rescue Mission

My day of volunteering was at the Riverfront Housing Complex located on the Grand River in downtown Lansing. The complex houses more than 220 seniors and people with disabilities. We started our morning by bringing both a hot noontime meal and leaving … Continue reading 31 Days of Giving, Day Four: Riverfront Housing Complex

How Your Donation Changes Lives

One of our clients, Pat, applied for her late husband’s veteran benefits and was wrongly denied. Without that income, she couldn’t afford food, critical home repairs or past due property taxes. She was faced with going hungry and without heat, even losing her home. After several attempts to get help elsewhere, she contacted Elder Law of Michigan’s Legal Hotline for Michigan Seniors. It took four … Continue reading How Your Donation Changes Lives

A Legal Extern Shares Her Experience

I was a legal extern for Elder Law of Michigan during my fall semester 3L year at Michigan State University College of Law. I could not be more thankful for my experience with the organization. Elder Law of Michigan allowed me to grow my skills as a lawyer by giving me real world experience handling client issues.  The attorneys and supervisors on staff were supportive, … Continue reading A Legal Extern Shares Her Experience

31 Days of Giving, Day Three: Closing the Digital Gap

I arrived at Closing the Digital Gap (CTDG) unsure what to expect. My volunteer session was set up and I was told I would be doing some technical assistance in addition to possibly answering some legal questions. At that time I wasn’t even entirely sure what the CTDG did. As I later learned, CTDG focuses on expanding access to computing based technology. The organization’s primary … Continue reading 31 Days of Giving, Day Three: Closing the Digital Gap
